... the Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive!

Lionel L.L.C. has once again tapped Hybrid Systems Ltd., Inc.
as an "Officially Licensed Partner" to develop and market the Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive!

If you operate or collect Lionel trains from the venerable Postwar Era you can appreciate the importance of the Lionel Postwar Service Manual. Provided to Approved Service Stations, the service manual was never published at one time in its entirety. Instead, Lionel issued pages to the manual as new products became available and it was up to the individual service station to assemble the pages into the manual. Ultimately, hundreds of additions were made to the manual during the postwar period most of which contained several pages. These pages were often stored in a 3-ring binder. As revisions were provided, earlier pages were replaced. As you might imagine, maintaining a complete and thorough service manual was quite a task!

Nevertheless, the Lionel Postwar Service Manual was an invaluable tool to the Approved Service Stations. Obtaining a complete, original set of the Lionel Postwar Service Manual is very difficult not to mention the issues of completeness, cost, and yellowed and brittle pages! The Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive provides an inexpensive alternative.

A note about this product ... You may find less expensive "Lionel Postwar Service Manuals" being advertised on eBay and other sites purporting to be "officially licensed products" and "as seen in popular publications". These are not authorized Lionel products and, most importantly, they do not contain "a complete set of Lionel Postwar Service Manuals"! Many of the sheets that are included are from the Lionel Modern Era and can be downloaded free from the Lionel web-site. HSL is the only provider of an authorized and licensed digital version of the Lionel Postwar Service Manual!

Like the Lionel Consumer Catalog Digital Archive and the Lionel Magazine Digital Archive, the Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive consists of material that has been meticulously scanned and developed into an easy to use CD-Rom. Previous HSL digital archive products have received high acclaim by customers for their ease of use, clarity, cost, and support.

Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive

The Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive is organized much in the same manner as the original service manual
with one major difference: it is much easier to find the information! Lionel divided the manual into sections: locomotives, tenders, operating cars, non-operating cars, accessories, etc. This digital archive still maintains the section definitions but now you can search for either the specific item number (i.e. "736") or an item description (i.e. "gang car"). If you are not sure what section the item was originally assigned by Lionel, you can easily search the entire table of contents using your browser's search function.

The Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive also includes the HO, race sets, phonographs, and Helios 21 sections! And, in case we missed something, the archive contains a link to a "Revision" web-site address that will be used by HSL to provide free updates to clients.

For reference, and to furnish you with the most complete manual as possible, the Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive includes price/parts lists.

Bill Schmeelk, co-author of the product, provides another insightful introduction entitled, "The Lionel Service Network Lionel's Key to Customer Satisfaction". Clients who have purchased previous HSL digital archive products know Bill's introductions appropriately frame the context of material presented in the archive. Bill is a long-time contributor to the Lionel Collectors Club of America's (LCCA) magazine, The Lion Roars, and has also served as the organization's president. Bill was the impetus behind this product.

Finally, the archive contains a Bonus Section with a sample of Lionel Service Station Booklets, a complete set of 20 Lionel Service Station Bulletins dated May 25, 1959 - October, 1961, several Lionel Heralds (the successor to the Service Station Bulletins), and a number of miscellaneous sheets and ads that Lionel mailed to Approved Service Stations.

HSL Digital Archive Software:
Prior to this product, all HSL digital archive products were non-PDF-based products. The Lionel Postwar Manual Digital Archive is a perfect application for PDF files! For magazines and catalogs, HSL needed the flexibility to allow you to move easily from one issue/catalog (or sub-section) to the next in an intuitive, elegant fashion. PDFs are best for applications like these service manual documents (and IRS tax forms, etc.). For example, each service manual document is basically a stand-alone document without much relation to the next or previous document. HSL digital archive products offer complete, application-specific software solutions that allow easy browsing of the many documents that are part of the archive.
